My Love for Sewing

The one thing I want you to know is this—I truly love to sew, and I want you to love it too! My passion is teaching others how to use their machines, create projects they can be proud of, and share their creativity with the world. Whether it’s a garment, quilt, or accessory, I believe every stitch tells a story of love and craftsmanship.

A Lifetime of Experience

With over 55 years of sewing experience, my journey began with my mother, Darlene Poore, who inspired me by sewing outfits for us late at night. My formal training came through the excellent sewing program at Canton City Schools, where I was guided by wonderful teachers including Mrs. Mani, Mrs. Spears, and Ms. Everhart.

Teaching and Sharing Skills

I have dedicated my life to teaching sewing in many settings. From private lessons to youth classes, I enjoy working with individuals of all ages. Over the years, I have taught:

  • After-School Sewing Programs at Crenshaw and Lehman Middle Schools
  • Special School Programs, such as making receiving blankets for newborns at Aultman Hospital
  • Saturday Morning Sewing Classes for girls aged 10–14
  • Private lessons for adults, including men learning to use their sewing machines
Sewing With Purpose

Part of my passion has always been to collaborate with individuals with disabilities and school groups. Together, we’ve created practical and meaningful projects such as embroidered tote bags, baby blankets, hats, cornhole bags, and gift items for local shops. Sewing is not just about the fabric—it’s about building confidence, creativity, and community.

Professional Experience

For over 12 years, I have worked with the Viking Sewing Gallery as both an associate and manager. During this time, I’ve gained expertise in teaching every kind of machine, including sewing machines, embroidery machines, sergers/overlocks, and software (with some limitations).

What You Can Learn With Me

I can teach you how to:

  • Properly use your sewing or embroidery machine
  • Master serger and overlock techniques
  • Follow, make, and read sewing patterns
  • Select the right supplies for your projects
  • Explore specialty techniques like bound buttonholes, lace inlay, quilting, and garment finishing

My Mission

My ultimate goal is to help others discover the joy of sewing. I want every student to walk away feeling proud to say: “I made this!” Together, we can nurture your creativity and turn your sewing dreams into reality.
